Why Custom Connectors?

Situations often arise where unique building designs require non-standard connector solutions.
We offer a wide range of custom connectors designed and manufactured to solve a multitude of connection challenges.

All our custom connectors are designed, engineered and manufactured to order, and are almost infinitely variable.
For EWP, roof trusses and solid timber applications - you give us the problem and we’ll find the solution.
We offer non-standard solutions for connector problems that may arise from the following situations:

  • Acute angles
  • Multiple incoming members
  • High end reactions
  • High uplift forces
Design Process

Please use our Design Template and provide all necessary details when making an enquiry so that we can provide a custom connector solution to suit your requirements without delay.
Drawings for each individual connector design will be completed in detail using Computer Aided Design Software (CAD) and upon your approval, will serve as a manufacturing layout for fabrication. We aim to complete all drawings upon receiving all necessary details within 24 hours, ensuring that our custom connectors arrive on time. In most cases we design custom connectors using RADAN sheet metal software which communicates with the Turret Press to manufacture connectors as a folded one-piece construction. This is the preferable option where a medium volume may be required, hangers are all pressed from at least one sheet of mild steel. This method provides a quick turnaround and a cost effective method of creating multiples of one style of connector. Where the design does not permit manufacture using this process, custom connectors will be welded.

We have a comprehensive library of custom designs allowing us to draw upon our experience ensuring a suitable solution and a quick response.

All our special connectors carry full Professional Indemnity (PI) Insurance.

Fixing Options
Connector Screws - 1 3⁄8" - For high-load applications, high performance FastenMaster Connector Screws are easily installed using a screw gun with a hex bit without the need for pre-drilling and provide excellent withdrawal and shear characteristics for a robust connection..
10d x 1.5" Nails - as the standard connector range - proven performance.

Bolts - Using (A307), 1/2", 5/8" or 3/4" reduced-thread bolts for high-load applications where fixing with nails or FastenMaster Connector Screws is not possible. Holes must be pre-drilled through the timber member (1mm clearance diameter in timber) and the bolt threaded through with a suitable washer on the timber face.

Corrosion Protection

All our Custom Connectors of welded construction are supplied as standard with a single coat shop primer, which is applied post fabrication and conforms to CSA S16-01 Clause 28.8.6.

A suitable secondary coat may be applied where necessary and is to be specified by the Building Designer for conditions where additional protection or enhanced appearance is required.

Please ensure that any secondary coat is compatible with the primary coat.

Unless specified, all pre-galvanised components will have a G90 coating. Certain products in a slightly higher corrosion environment may be specifi ed with a G185 coating. Stainless steel is available on request. When using stainless steel connectors, stainless steel fasteners must be used.
